BATON ROUGE, LA — Heartbreak has struck once again in Baton Rouge as authorities confirm that one person has died following a shooting Wednesday evening on Greenwell Springs Road.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 9000 block of Greenwell Springs Road at approximately 6:33 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered an individual suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives quickly secured the area, marking off the stretch of roadway as crime scene investigators combed through evidence and spoke with witnesses in an effort to determine what led to the deadly encounter. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
At this time, BRPD has not announced any arrests or released information about possible suspects or motives. Detectives are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to come forward.
