OVERLAND PARK, KS — October 29, 2025 — The Overland Park community is grieving following a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025, on Goddard Street, just west of Switzer Road. The Overland Park Police Department is investigating the incident and seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the deceased woman, believed to be in her seventies, who tragically lost her life in the accident.
According to authorities, the crash took place around 3:29 a.m. when a vehicle, identified as V1, was traveling eastbound on Goddard Street. The vehicle first struck a parked car on the westbound side of the road, continued traveling eastbound, and then struck a pedestrian walking westbound along the edge of the roadway. The vehicle finally came to a stop after colliding with a tree.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the involved vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries sustained during the crash.
The victim is described as an unidentified white female, believed to be in her 70s, with gray hair and a short stature. At the time of the incident, she was wearing black sweatpants and a light gray hoodie. Investigators believe she may have been a local resident known to take early morning walks in the area around 4:00 a.m. Sadly, no form of identification was found on her person.
Authorities are urging anyone who may recognize the woman or have information about her identity to contact the Overland Park Traffic Unit at 913-327-6731.
“This is a heartbreaking situation,” said Public Information Officer John Lacy #653, speaking on behalf of the department. “We’re asking for the community’s help to identify this woman so that we can notify her loved ones and give her the dignity and respect she deserves.”
As investigators continue to piece together the events that led to the tragedy, members of the Overland Park community have expressed sympathy and sorrow for the unidentified woman. Neighbors in the area have spoken about seeing an older woman walking along Goddard Street in the early morning hours on many occasions — someone who quietly kept to herself, perhaps seeking peace in the calm of dawn.
Though her name remains unknown, her death has touched many hearts. It serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerability of pedestrians, especially those who walk in the early hours of the morning. For now, she is remembered not by name, but by presence — a familiar face on morning walks, whose life was tragically cut short.
Community members are already calling for increased lighting and safety measures along Goddard Street to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Until her identity is confirmed and her loved ones can be reached, the Overland Park community collectively mourns the loss of this unidentified woman, offering prayers and compassion to the person she was and to the family who, somewhere, may be searching for answers.
Rest in peace to the woman whose journey ended too soon.
May her family find comfort, and may her memory be honored by the kindness of those who remember her walks and her quiet strength.
