STILLWATER, Okla. —A quiet early morning at Oklahoma State University (OSU) was violently disrupted Sunday when gunfire erupted at the Carreker East residential hall, leaving several people injured — including at least one OSU student.
According to OSU Chief of Police Michael Beckner, officers were dispatched around 3:40 a.m. after reports surfaced that multiple shooting victims had arrived at off-campus locations seeking help. Upon arrival at Carreker East, officers confirmed that several individuals had been shot during the incident.
Chief Beckner stated that one of the victims has been identified as a current OSU student, while others appear to be non-students who were visiting campus at the time. All victims are currently receiving medical treatment at hospitals in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Their conditions have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to campus, but have urged students and the public to avoid the Carreker East area while investigators continue their work.
Preliminary findings suggest that the shooting may have stemmed from a large off-campus party that took place earlier in the night. After the gathering ended, some attendees reportedly returned to the residence hall, where a confrontation escalated into gunfire.
Investigators with the OSU Police Department, in collaboration with Stillwater Police and other local agencies, have been processing the scene, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews throughout the morning. Chief Beckner confirmed that detectives are pursuing multiple leads and working to identify all individuals involved in the incident.
At 6:37 a.m., OSU Police released an update confirming that an additional victim had been located and was receiving treatment at an area hospital, bringing the total number of known victims to several.
In a statement, OSU officials expressed deep concern for the victims and their families, pledging full cooperation with law enforcement while maintaining campus safety.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this senseless act,” the university said. “We are grateful for the quick response of campus police, first responders, and medical personnel. OSU remains committed to supporting our students and ensuring the safety of our community.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information — including students or community members who attended the off-campus party or witnessed the shooting — to contact the OSU Police Department at (405) 744-6523 or to submit an anonymous tip via the Rave Guardian app, which also allows real-time chat with dispatchers.
The university is directing students, faculty, and the public to safety.okstate.edu for verified updates and safety information as the investigation develops.
As the OSU community reels from the violence, students gathered across campus throughout the day to check in on friends and share messages of solidarity. The university’s counseling services have been made available to anyone affected by the tragedy.
What began as a night of celebration has now left the Stillwater community shaken, with investigators working tirelessly to uncover the truth behind the early morning shooting.
