ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — A late-night Halloween party in Maxton turned tragic early Saturday morning when gunfire erupted, leaving two people dead — identified as 23-year-old Nehemiah Locklear and his father, Jessie Locklear — and 13 others injured, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. The violence unfolded at a large outdoor gathering along Dixon Drive near McGirt Gin Road, where more than 150 people had gathered to celebrate.

The party, widely promoted online with the tagline “Ain’t no party like the dirt road party,” drew a large crowd from across Robeson County and surrounding communities. Music, laughter, and socializing filled the night — until the sound of gunfire shattered the celebration and sent people running for cover.

When deputies arrived shortly after 3:00 a.m., the scene was already in chaos. Most attendees had fled in panic, leaving behind injured partygoers, abandoned vehicles, and the echoes of what had just transpired. First responders rushed to provide aid to the wounded, many of whom suffered gunshot wounds while others were hurt in the ensuing stampede.
