Louisville Metro Police Identify Officer and Victims in Fatal Ridgecrest Road Shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) has released additional details regarding the fatal officer-involved shooting that took place early Monday morning on Ridgecrest Road, resulting in the deaths of Frank Mejia Aguilar and Tiffany Reiner, and involving Officer Hunter Weaver, who fired the fatal shot.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Monday in the 5500 block of Ridgecrest Road, when officers responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police discovered a woman, later identified as Tiffany Reiner, suffering from gunshot wounds. While officers assessed the situation, they encountered Aguilar, who was reportedly walking toward them while armed with a gun.

According to police, officers issued multiple commands for Aguilar to drop his weapon. When he failed to comply, Officer Hunter Weaver discharged his service weapon, striking Aguilar. Both Aguilar and Reiner later succumbed to their injuries.

Family members told WAVE 3 News that the tragic events unfolded during what was meant to be a 20th birthday celebration for Reiner’s son. The family had gathered at their home to celebrate when the situation escalated into violence. Reiner’s son expressed heartbreak and disbelief, sharing that the evening quickly turned from joy to tragedy.

In an effort to maintain transparency, LMPD has identified Officer Hunter Weaver as the officer who fired the fatal shot. Weaver, who serves in the department’s Sixth Division, joined the Louisville Metro Police Department in June 2023. Since his hiring, Weaver has received multiple commendations for exemplary service from Chief Paul Humphrey, recognizing his professionalism, responsiveness, and bravery in the line of duty.

Among his commendations are recognition for:

  • His response to a carjacking involving a 12-year-old child who was inside the stolen vehicle; Weaver and other responding officers successfully located both the child and the vehicle.
  • His proactive efforts in recovering stolen vehicles and weapons using the city’s FLOCK camera system during patrol operations.
  • His contribution to a Robbery 1st case, where suspects fled but were successfully pursued and apprehended.
  • His role in another carjacking and pursuit case, assisting in locating a suspect who fled on foot after abandoning the vehicle.

While Officer Weaver’s record includes several commendations, LMPD also released his disciplinary history for full transparency. The Professional Standards Unit (PSU) issued a letter of reprimand in connection with a secondary employment case. He was exonerated on an “obedience to rules and regulations” allegation and received a “not sustained” finding on a “conduct unbecoming” complaint.

LMPD officials stated that the body camera footage from the incident will be released soon, as required by departmental policy and in accordance with the department’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability.

Chief Humphrey extended condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and emphasized the department’s dedication to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation.

The incident remains under review by LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit, which investigates all officer-involved shootings.

As the Louisville community grapples with yet another act of violence, the deaths of Frank Mejia Aguilar and Tiffany Reiner have left a lasting emotional impact on their loved ones. What began as a joyful family celebration turned into a night of sorrow, serving as a solemn reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike.

LMPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and will release further details as the investigation progresses.
