ST. AUGUSTINE’S, — The St. Joseph’s Parish Council and Pastoral Team have confirmed the heartbreaking loss of 16-year-old Madeline Thompson, a student at St. Augustine’s College, who passed away while in Panama.

Madeline, who had just celebrated her 16th birthday on September 26, was remembered as a cherished member of the parish family, whose faith, dedication, and generosity touched everyone around her. She faithfully served at the St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen every Saturday, offering her time, energy, and love to help those in need. Her contributions reflected a genuine spirit of service and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on the community she so dearly loved.

“Her kind heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to help others reflected the love of Christ in all she did,” parish leaders shared in a statement. Madeline’s commitment to serving others, alongside her joyful presence, made her a bright light in the lives of her family, friends, and parish community.

The parish joins her parents, Jerome and Shenique Thompson, her family, and the entire St. Augustine’s College community in mourning this profound loss. “As a parish, we hold them all in our prayers, asking God to surround them with His peace, strength, and consolation during this time of deep sorrow,” the statement continued.

Madeline’s life, though tragically brief, exemplified the virtues of faith, love, and service. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her, reminding everyone of the difference one young life can make through acts of kindness and devotion to others.

The St. Joseph’s Parish Council has encouraged the community to come together in prayer and remembrance for Madeline, her family, and all who are grieving. Counseling and support services will also be made available to students and parish members impacted by this loss.
