The community of Shreveport is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 37-year-old Dwayne Kinchen, who was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night along U.S. Highway 80 (Greenwood Road) in west Shreveport.

According to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office, the fatal incident occurred shortly before 9:20 p.m. on October 20, 2025, when Kinchen was reportedly walking along the roadway and was struck by a passing vehicle under circumstances still under investigation.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, and Kinchen was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, where medical teams worked tirelessly to save his life. Tragically, despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:00 p.m.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity through fingerprint comparison, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the precise cause and nature of his injuries.

As of now, the Shreveport Police Department has not released information about the driver or the vehicle involved. Investigators are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic collision, including whether visibility issues, driver speed, or roadway conditions may have played a role in the fatal event.

Residents and community leaders have voiced growing concerns about pedestrian safety in the Greenwood Road area, particularly at night when street lighting is limited. Many are calling for improved lighting, crosswalks, and traffic control measures to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Friends and family members describe Dwayne Kinchen as a kind, caring, and humble soul — someone who loved life and brought laughter and joy wherever he went. His sudden passing has left loved ones devastated, struggling to comprehend the loss of a man who meant so much to so many.

💬 “He was always smiling, always ready to lend a hand,” one close friend said. “He didn’t deserve this. He had such a good heart, and everyone who knew him loved him.”

As the community rallies around his family, tributes have begun to appear both online and near the site of the accident. Candles, flowers, and handwritten notes now mark the spot, serving as a quiet reminder of a life cut far too short.

The Shreveport Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing its investigation, and anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is urged to come forward. Tips can be shared anonymously through Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
