It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Tyler Simmons, who left this world on October 24th at 2:55 PM, at the tender age of 24.
Tyler was involved in a single-car accident early Thursday morning around 4:00 AM in Gloucester, Virginia. Despite the swift response and the tireless efforts of medical professionals, the injuries he sustained were too severe for him to recover. In the face of unimaginable tragedy, Tyler’s strength, compassion, and selflessness continued to shine.
Before his passing, Tyler expressed one final wish—to be an organ donor. In doing so, he chose to give life to others, even when his own was coming to an end.
Tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM, Tyler will be honored with a Hero’s Honor Walk, a moment recognizing the beautiful, brave choice he made. Because of Tyler’s gift:
- One person will receive his heart
- One person will receive both of his lungs
- One person will receive his pancreas
- And two individuals will receive his kidneys
Five lives will continue — five families will have renewed hope — because of Tyler. His legacy is one of generosity, courage, and profound love. For that, we are endlessly proud.
Due to hospital policy, the Honor Walk will be limited to immediate family only. We kindly ask that everyone respect this space and privacy as those closest to him share this sacred moment.
A viewing and funeral service will be held for Tyler Tuesday or Wednesday in Virginia, and the final details will be shared as soon as his mother has them confirmed. We ask everyone to keep Tyler’s mother and family deep in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. They are navigating the unbearable weight of grief.
To the countless friends, loved ones, neighbors, and community members who have reached out over these past days — thank you. Your compassion, your messages, your presence — they have lifted and supported the family more than words can express.
We would also like to express heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Riverside Hospital. Their care, tenderness, and unwavering compassion made an impossible situation just a little more bearable. They have been true angels in this journey, guiding Tyler’s family through every step with grace, dignity, and love.
If you have any questions or need clarification about arrangements, please reach out directly to me, rather than contacting his mother at this time. She is processing unimaginable heartbreak and needs time and space to grieve.
Tyler — your light, your laughter, your heart, your kindness — they will never fade. You touched more lives than you will ever know, and now you continue to touch lives still.
Rest in peace, Tyler Simmons.
You will be missed more than words can ever say.
Your love lives on. Your courage lives on. Your legacy lives on.
