In Loving Memory of Tiffany Reiner — Louisville Mother Killed in Newburg Shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A night meant for celebration turned into tragedy early Monday morning in the Newburg neighborhood when 45-year-old Tiffany Reiner was fatally shot during what family members say was a birthday party for her 20-year-old son. The devastating series of events unfolded around 2 a.m. in the 5500 block of Ridgecrest Road, leaving two people dead and an entire community in shock.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), officers responded to reports of a shooting at the home. When they arrived, they were approached by a man later identified as 20-year-old Frank Aguilar. Police say Aguilar was armed and refused to comply with commands to drop his weapon. When he allegedly raised his gun toward officers, an officer fired, striking him. Aguilar was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later confirmed that Tiffany Reiner, who had been shot moments before police arrived, was also pronounced deceased. Family members believe Aguilar was the one who shot Reiner, though police have not yet publicly confirmed that detail as the investigation continues.

A Celebration Shattered by Violence

Family members say the night began with joy — a small gathering to celebrate the 20th birthday of Reiner’s son. What was supposed to be a happy occasion quickly turned into chaos and heartbreak.

“He was so happy just hours before,” said Bryan Basham, a relative of Tiffany. “Like, I just don’t see it. It just doesn’t make any sense.”

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots followed by police sirens flooding the quiet residential street. What followed was a night of confusion and grief as word spread that Tiffany, a beloved mother and friend, had lost her life in the place she called home.

The Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

The LMPD Public Integrity Unit (PIU) has taken over the investigation, which includes reviewing body-worn camera footage from the officers involved. Police officials say that footage will be released within 10 business days, in accordance with department policy.

Investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting — including the relationship between Reiner and Aguilar, and what may have prompted the violence that claimed both of their lives.

LMPD officials emphasized that the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the internal and criminal investigations, as is standard procedure in police-involved shootings.

Remembering Tiffany Reiner

Friends and family remember Tiffany Reiner as a loving mother, a caring friend, and a woman whose laughter could fill any room. Her death has left her loved ones heartbroken and searching for answers.

“She was always there for her kids, always trying to make things better for everyone around her,” said one family member. “To lose her like this — it’s just unreal. It’s something you can’t prepare for.”

Tiffany’s sudden and tragic death has sparked an outpouring of grief and support from the community. Neighbors have begun placing flowers, candles, and photos near the home on Ridgecrest Road as a tribute to her life.

A Family and Community in Mourning

The loss of both Tiffany and Frank Aguilar has left a cloud of sorrow hanging over Newburg. For Tiffany’s family, the pain is immeasurable — a mother gone too soon, taken in an instant during what should have been a joyful family celebration.

The incident has also reignited community discussions about gun violence, mental health, and police response — issues that continue to weigh heavily on Louisville residents in the wake of recent tragedies.

Seeking Justice and Healing

As the investigation continues, the Public Integrity Unit is working to uncover the full truth of what happened that night. Family members say they hope the release of body camera footage will provide much-needed clarity and help them find closure.

“We just want answers,” said one family friend. “We want to know why this happened — why Tiffany had to lose her life like this.”

Rest in Eternal Peace, Tiffany Reiner (1980–2025)

A devoted mother, cherished daughter, and loving friend whose kindness and warmth will never be forgotten.

May her family find comfort in the love and support of those who grieve alongside them.
