OMAHA, Neb. — With hearts weighed down by grief and disbelief, the Omaha community is mourning the tragic deaths of 39-year-old Shauna Shook and 39-year-old Benjamin Myers, whose lives were lost in what authorities have described as an apparent murder-suicide on Thursday evening, October 16, 2025.
According to the Omaha Police Department (OPD), officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 4300 block of North 65th Street shortly after 6:30 p.m. for a welfare check that quickly turned into a devastating discovery. Inside the home, police found Shauna Shook deceased under suspicious circumstances, prompting detectives from the OPD Homicide Unit to launch a full investigation.
Through witness interviews and technology provided by the OPD Real-Time Operations Center, investigators soon identified Benjamin Myers, Ms. Shook’s boyfriend, as a person of interest. Within hours, the OPD ABLE-1 helicopter unit, working alongside intelligence analysts and the Bellevue Police Department, located Myers’ vehicle parked in the Walmart lot on South 15th Street in Bellevue, Nebraska.
When officers approached the vehicle, they found Benjamin Myers inside, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was rushed to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives have since confirmed that no other individuals are being sought in connection with this case. Preliminary findings indicate that Myers fatally shot Ms. Shook before taking his own life, leaving behind two families forever changed and a community reeling from the senseless loss.
The Omaha Police Department extended its deepest condolences to everyone impacted by this tragedy, emphasizing the importance of compassion, mental health awareness, and community support in the wake of such heartbreak. Officials also reminded the public that help is always available for anyone struggling with emotional distress or relationship-related crises.
Friends and loved ones have begun sharing memories of Shauna Shook, describing her as a warm, loving, and thoughtful woman who brought light to those around her. Many recalled her kindness, gentle spirit, and the joy she found in helping others. Her tragic passing has left a void that words cannot fill.
Those who knew Benjamin Myers expressed shock and sadness, noting that this tragedy serves as a reminder of the silent struggles people may face behind closed doors.
