RICHMOND TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Lancaster County community is mourning the unimaginable loss of 19-year-old Shanelle Aviles and her beloved niece, Amanii, who tragically passed away following a devastating car accident. The heartbreaking crash also left Shanelle’s older sister, Kayla, and her young son, Amarii, in critical condition, both currently fighting for their lives in the Intensive Care Unit on life support.

According to the Berks County Coroner’s Office, the fatal crash occurred on Route 222 north near the Kutztown Road overpass in Richmond Township. Investigators reported that the vehicle in which Shanelle was a passenger crossed over the center grass median and collided head-on with an SUV. The violent impact sent both vehicles spinning out of control — the car plunged over a bridge, crashing onto the road below, while the SUV spun into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer, which struck it moments later.

Authorities confirmed that three of the four people in the car were ejected due to the sheer force of the collision. Tragically, Shanelle Aviles and an 18-month-old child, identified by loved ones as her niece Amanii, both succumbed to their injuries. The 27-year-old driver and a 7-year-old boy were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, while the tractor-trailer driver was unhurt.

The crash closed Route 222 for several hours as emergency crews, investigators, and first responders worked tirelessly at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to determine the factors that led to the accident.

The news of this devastating tragedy has left the Aviles family heartbroken beyond words. Shanelle was described by loved ones as the heart of the family — a kind, loving, and radiant young woman full of life, laughter, and compassion. She always showed up when others needed her most, giving freely of her time, energy, and care.

“Shanelle was the heart of our family — full of love, laughter, and strength. She cared deeply for everyone around her and always showed up when you needed her most,” her family shared.

Just 19 years old, Shanelle was filled with dreams for her future. She had a special love for children and was known for her selflessness and warmth. Her gentle heart and radiant smile made her a light in the lives of everyone she met.

Her niece Amanii, only 18 months old, was a joyful and curious child who brought endless happiness to her family. Her laughter was pure sunshine — the kind that made any moment brighter. Though her time on earth was heartbreakingly short, she left a profound impact on everyone blessed to know her.

“Amanii was such a bright light — sweet, funny, and full of life. Losing her has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.”

Friends and community members have taken to social media to share memories and tributes, remembering Shanelle as a “beautiful soul gone too soon” and honoring both her and Amanii with heartfelt prayers and messages of love. Many have described her as someone whose kindness, compassion, and joyful energy will never be forgotten.

As Kayla and Amarii continue to fight for their lives, the Aviles family is asking for support to help cover funeral expenses, ongoing medical costs, and grief counseling as they navigate this unimaginable loss. Every donation and every message of comfort means more than words can express.

“There are truly no words to describe the pain we are feeling right now,” the family wrote. “We are holding on to faith, and to the love and kindness of others, to get us through this heartbreaking time.”

The loss of Shanelle and Amanii has left a void that will never be filled, but their memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them. Their light — though extinguished far too soon — will continue to shine brightly through the love, faith, and strength of their family.
