A deep sense of heartbreak has swept through the Snow Hill community following the tragic loss of 27-year-old Makaylah Dixon, who died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, October 12, 2025, on Fort Run Road in Greene County.
According to Trooper A.H. Batchelor with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m., after reports of a vehicle crash east of Peanut Road near Snow Hill. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a severely damaged SUV that had left the roadway and overturned in a nearby peanut field.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the center line, and then veered off to the left before striking a ditch and flipping multiple times.
Tragically, Makaylah Dixon was ejected from the vehicle during the violent crash. In a heartbreaking discovery, first responders found her body lodged in a tree near the crash site. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators are still working to determine whether Makaylah was the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. Trooper Batchelor noted that speed and alcohol may have played a role, but emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events leading to the crash.
The tragic news has left friends, loved ones, and neighbors in shock. Makaylah was well known in Snow Hill, a tight-knit community where she grew up and built lasting relationships. She was described by those who knew her as vibrant, caring, and full of life — a young woman whose smile could light up any room.
“She was the type of person who made everyone feel welcome,” one friend shared. “Makaylah had a big heart and loved her family deeply. This loss doesn’t feel real.”
As investigators worked the crash scene, Trooper Batchelor and members of the State Highway Patrol Reconstruction Unit meticulously gathered evidence and documented the area to determine the precise cause of the collision. The roadway was closed for several hours as authorities processed the scene and cleared the wreckage from the peanut field.
Local residents and community leaders have expressed their condolences to Makaylah’s family, many of whom are struggling to comprehend the sudden and devastating loss. Vigils and online tributes have already begun to appear, filled with photos, memories, and messages of love.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash, and no additional details have been released regarding potential contributing factors.
As the Snow Hill community grieves, loved ones remember Makaylah Dixon as more than a crash victim — they remember her as a daughter, a friend, and a soul who brought laughter and light wherever she went.
Gone far too soon, Makaylah’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Rest in peace, Makaylah Dixon
Forever 27.
