In Loving Memory of Elisha “Lamelo” Gilbert

In Loving Memory of Elisha “Lamelo” Gilbert

With the heaviest of hearts, the Manual Runnin’ Rams Men’s Track & Field Team announces the passing of one of a  greatest athletes, beloved teammates, and true leaders — Elisha “Lamelo” Gilbert. His loss has left an unfillable void in the hearts of everyone who knew him, trained beside him, and witnessed his dedication both on and off the track.

Elisha was more than just an outstanding athlete — he was the heartbeat of our team. His energy, drive, and commitment to excellence inspired everyone around him. Whether sprinting down the track, encouraging a teammate, or leading by quiet example, Melo embodied what it meant to be a Runnin’ Ram: resilient, determined, humble, and full of heart.

To his coaches and teammates, he was a brother in every sense of the word — someone who could be counted on to lift spirits, offer encouragement, and bring laughter even in the toughest workouts. His light shone brightly, and though his time with us was far too short, his spirit and impact will continue to inspire generations of athletes to come.

We take comfort in knowing that Melo’s faith and strength were unwavering, and that he is now at peace in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May his family be forever blessed, comforted, and strengthened in this season of grief. May they find solace in knowing how deeply loved he was and how many lives he touched through his passion, character, and kindness.

Though words will never be enough to capture what Elisha meant to us, his legacy will live on through every stride, every race, and every heart that beats with the same love for the sport that he carried. His memory will forever echo through the lanes of our track and the halls of our program.

Rest in Power, Melo.

Until we all meet again on that Great Day.

Forever & Always,

Coach Harvey Burnett

Head Coach, Manual Men’s Track & Field
