Heartbreak and disbelief fill the small community of Maringouin after the tragic loss of 17-year-old Derrien Scott, a beloved high school student in the Iberville Parish School District, who was fatally shot Thursday evening, October 16, 2025.
According to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 6:12 p.m. at the Ridgewood Apartments in Maringouin. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds — Derrien Scott, and another teen, a 19-year-old from the area, who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, Derrien succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving family, friends, and classmates devastated.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding potential suspects or motives behind the shooting. The investigation remains active, with detectives urging anyone who may have witnessed or has information about the incident to come forward.
