Our hearts are heavy as the community of Bexley mourns the loss of 18-year-old Demetrese Norvett of Columbus, whose life was tragically taken in a violent incident that occurred at 540 North Cassady Avenue. This heartbreaking event has left friends, family, and neighbors in deep sorrow as investigators continue to piece together what happened.

According to the Bexley Police Department, officers responded to the scene late Sunday evening, where Demetrese was discovered unresponsive. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased. Authorities have since launched a homicide investigation with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and other regional law enforcement partners.

Bexley Police have emphasized that, while the investigation remains active, there is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the community. “Our department is working around the clock to uncover the full circumstances of this incident and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” officials said in a statement. “We are deeply appreciative of the professionalism and dedication of the men and women of the Bexley Police Department, who continue to work tirelessly.”

Demetrese, affectionately known to friends as “Meechie,” was a bright young man with a kind heart and an infectious smile that could light up any room. He was deeply loved by his family, respected by his peers, and had dreams of building a future full of promise. Those who knew him best describe him as loyal, funny, and full of life — someone who always found a way to make others laugh, even during difficult times.

As the investigation continues, the Bexley community has come together in grief and solidarity, offering prayers and support to Demetrese’s loved ones. Vigils and memorials are being planned to honor his memory and celebrate the joy he brought into so many lives.
