SALUDA, SOUTH CAROLINA — The community of Saluda is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 76-year-old Shirley Fincher, who tragically lost her life in a violent two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 178 near Prater Road late Monday morning, October 27, 2025.

According to reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the crash occurred when a 2005 Honda Accord, which was evading law enforcement, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse traveling in the opposite direction. Each vehicle was occupied by a driver and one passenger at the time of the crash.

Trooper Brandon Bolt with SCHP confirmed that the driver of the Honda was fleeing from police when the vehicle veered left of center, causing the deadly collision. The impact was severe, resulting in catastrophic damage to both vehicles and tragically claiming the life of Ms. Shirley Fincher, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet Traverse.

Saluda County Coroner Angie Rita identified the victim as Shirley Fincher, a longtime resident of Saluda, who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her sudden passing has left her family, friends, and community members grief-stricken as they remember a woman known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her.

The drivers of both vehicles, as well as the remaining passenger, were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Officials have not yet released details regarding their current conditions.
