A bright young light in our community has been taken far too soon. On Thursday afternoon, tragedy struck in northeast Las Vegas when 10-year-old Marquis was involved in a devastating accident while riding with a friend on an e-scooter. Despite swift efforts from first responders, sweet Marquis did not survive his injuries.
Marquis was a joyful, energetic child who loved to play, laugh, and explore. He was known for his warm smile, kind heart, and the way he could brighten a room simply by being in it. Whether riding bikes, playing with friends, or just being a kid, he brought happiness to those around him. He had dreams, potential, and a future filled with promise—one that was sadly cut short far too soon.
His passing has left a deep ache in the hearts of his family, friends, neighbors, classmates, and all who knew him. The pain of losing a child is something no family should ever have to experience, and during this difficult time, we ask the community to surround his loved ones with compassion, prayer, and support.
We also keep in our hearts the 9-year-old boy who survived the crash. May he heal physically and emotionally, and may he always know that he is loved and supported.
As we remember Marquis, let us hold tighter to our children, remind them how loved they are, and be more attentive and patient with each other on our roads and in our neighborhoods. Safety, awareness, and care from all of us—drivers, parents, and community members—can help prevent another family from feeling this unbearable grief.
Marquis, your memory will forever live in the hearts of those who love you.
May you rest peacefully, sweet angel.
