SANTA CLAUS, Ind. (October 15, 2025) — The close-knit town of Santa Claus, Indiana, is in shock and mourning after a suspected murder-suicide on Tuesday afternoon claimed the lives of John Adkins, 49, and his wife Jamie Adkins, 48, leaving the community devastated. The incident involved the couple and was responded to by multiple officers, including Sgt. Josh Greer, First Sgt. Rob Gardner, crime scene investigation Sgt. Ted Clamm, Sgt. John Davis, Master Trooper Trey Lytton, Trooper Connor Giesler, Detective CJ Boeckman, and crime scene investigator Shelby Cox, who are leading the investigation into this tragic event.
Authorities reported that the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Jamie Adkins, who stated she had shot her husband. Officers arrived at the home to find John Adkins deceased from gunshot wounds, while Jamie had also suffered a gunshot wound. She was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Kentucky, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Autopsies are scheduled in Vanderburgh County and Chrisney, Spencer County.
Santa Claus, a town of roughly 2,600 residents, is home to Holiday World amusement park and lies about 70 minutes northeast of downtown Evansville. The tragedy has left the community heartbroken, as neighbors remember John and Jamie Adkins as familiar and valued members of their small town.
The Indiana State Police and Spencer County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in providing clarity and closure for the community.
