PORT HURON, MI — Heartbreak has swept through both the Port Huron and Detroit communities following the tragic death of 30-year-old Pett Riley, who was fatally shot Monday afternoon, October 13, 2025, at a Marathon gas station located at 1301 Military Street. Authorities say the deadly incident unfolded around 4:31 p.m., leaving loved ones in shock and mourning the sudden and senseless loss of a young man gone too soon.

According to Port Huron Police Chief Brian Kerrigan, officers were dispatched to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire at the busy gas station. When police arrived, they discovered Pett Riley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite swift emergency medical response, Riley was transported to Lake Huron Medical Center, where he was tragically pronounced deceased a short time later.

Chief Kerrigan confirmed that investigators quickly detained a 36-year-old woman, who was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail. Authorities noted that the suspect is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

The Port Huron Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit has taken the lead on the case, working tirelessly to uncover the full circumstances that led to the deadly encounter. Officials have not yet released information regarding the relationship between Riley and the suspect or the potential motive behind the shooting.
