The Barstow community is mourning the tragic and senseless loss of 35-year-old Jesse Edward Murueta Cervantes of Ontario, who was fatally shot late Saturday night during a violent incident at a Barstow residence. Authorities confirmed his identity Sunday, as friends and loved ones began expressing their grief over the devastating news.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 11:55 p.m. on October 11, 2025, at a home located in the 28300 block of Old Highway 58. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Jesse Murueta Cervantes in the backyard, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts from emergency personnel, Jesse was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail were called to take over the case. Through their investigation, detectives identified the suspected shooter as 31-year-old Andrew Limon of Apple Valley.
According to officials, the preliminary investigation revealed that Limon had arrived at the home of a former girlfriend when the deadly confrontation occurred in the backyard. During the altercation, Limon allegedly shot Jesse Murueta Cervantes before fleeing the location.
Hours later, Apple Valley deputies responded to an unrelated call and discovered Limon inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound believed to have been sustained during the Barstow shooting. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Upon medical clearance, authorities stated that Limon will be booked for PC 187 – Murder.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances that led to the tragic loss of Jesse Edward Murueta Cervantes.
