In Loving Memory: 65-Year-Old Marion Man Rodney M. Milner Identified as Victim in Fatal Greene County Crash

GREENE COUNTY, Ala. — The community of Marion is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 65-year-old Rodney M. Milner, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Greene County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the fatal accident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, when the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck Milner was driving veered off the roadway and collided with a tree. The crash happened along Greene County Road 18 near Swan Lane, approximately four miles north of Demopolis.

Investigators say Milner was traveling alone at the time of the accident. For reasons still under investigation, his vehicle left the roadway and struck the tree with significant force. Despite immediate emergency response efforts, Milner was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers noted that he was not wearing a seat belt, which may have contributed to the severity of his injuries.

The devastating news has left family, friends, and neighbors in shock. Those who knew Rodney remember him as a gentle, hardworking man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a loyal friend, a beloved member of his community, and someone whose warm presence made a difference in the lives of many.

“Rodney was one of those people who always had a smile and kind word for everyone,” said a close family friend. “He’ll be remembered for his generosity, his work ethic, and his love for the people around him.”

As authorities from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, they are reminding motorists of the importance of road safety — particularly the lifesaving power of seat belts.

“This tragic accident underscores how crucial it is for every driver and passenger to buckle up—every trip, every time,” said a trooper at the scene. “Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective tools for preventing serious injury or death.”

The roadway was temporarily closed while first responders and investigators worked to clear the scene, but it has since reopened.

The loss of Rodney M. Milner has left an emptiness in the hearts of those who knew him best. His passing serves as a sobering reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly tragedy can strike.

As the community of Marion comes together to grieve, they are remembering Rodney not for the way he died, but for the life he lived — full of kindness, hard work, and quiet strength.

May he rest in eternal peace, and may his loved ones find comfort in the cherished memories they shared with him.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the incident. No further details have been released at this time.
