Deadly Crash on Albany Avenue in Hartford Claims One Life, Leaves Another Critically Injured

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford authorities are investigating a tragic crash that occurred early Monday morning on Albany Avenue, leaving 25-year-old Adrian Service dead and 25-year-old Jammie Martin critically injured. The incident also involved a suspect fleeing a traffic stop, whose vehicle contained firearms and drugs, and police are continuing to investigate the role of all parties involved. The crash closed the busy roadway for hours as police, firefighters, and investigators worked the scene.

Police responded to the crash at 1510 Albany Avenue in the early morning hours of Monday, just before midnight on Sunday night. Upon arrival, they discovered Service trapped inside his vehicle and Martin ejected from the first vehicle involved in the crash.

According to authorities, Martin suffered severe injuries when he was thrown from the vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and an AMR unit performed a rapid trauma assessment before transporting Martin to a local hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. Service, who was trapped in the second vehicle, required extrication but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lt. Aaron Boisvert of Hartford Police confirmed that the crash involved a suspect fleeing a traffic stop prior to the collision and that firearms and drugs were found in the suspect’s vehicle. “It was also learned that the operator of the vehicle was on the deadly weapons offense registry,” Boisvert said. Investigators are still determining the exact circumstances leading to the crash.

Neighbors were shaken by the violence of the incident. Ocean Westberry, who lives across from the crash site, recalled the terrifying moment. “I just heard a very loud crash. [There were] tires screeching and then a very loud boom. It was so loud that it sounded like it was coming from inside the apartment,” Westberry said. “It’s very sad. I did not expect to hear that this morning.”

Police and investigators spent the morning photographing the scene and placing evidence markers near the damaged vehicles. The Hartford Fire Marshal was called to assist with the investigation. Authorities also established a perimeter with tape to secure the crash site and redirected traffic away from the area. Albany Avenue remained closed between Mark Twain Drive and Homestead Avenue while the investigation continued.

The devastating crash has left the Hartford community reeling. Friends and family of both men are mourning the loss of Service and praying for Martin’s recovery. The incident underscores the dangers associated with fleeing law enforcement and high-speed collisions, and it highlights ongoing concerns about public safety in the area.

Hartford Police have urged anyone with information about the crash or the suspect vehicle to contact the Hartford Police Department’s traffic division. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge about the events leading up to the collision and the individuals involved.
