ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (October 19, 2025) — The St. Croix community is mourning the tragic loss of 49-year-old Hoedelair Germaine, who was fatally shot late Friday night inside Bienvenido’s Bar in Estate Profit. The senseless act of violence has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken, and the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Major Crimes Unit has launched a full homicide investigation.

According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of the shooting at approximately 11:53 p.m. on Friday, October 17. Officers arriving at the scene found Germaine lying face down inside the bar. Emergency Medical Technicians responded immediately, but tragically, he showed no vital signs and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members remember Hoedelair as a devoted family man, a loving father, and a respected member of the community. His sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, and loved ones continue to grapple with the shock and grief of losing him so abruptly.

“This is a tragic loss for the community and for the family of Mr. Germaine,” Dratte said. “Our Major Crimes Unit is fully engaged in the investigation, and we are asking the public to assist in any way possible.”

As of Saturday, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released a motive or additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. The VIPD emphasized that the investigation remains active, with detectives carefully reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing any available video footage to piece together what happened.

The department has also urged anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling the Crime Tip Line at (340) 778-4950, dialing 911, or submitting information anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI. Law enforcement stressed that even the smallest piece of information could be critical in helping bring justice for Hoedelair and his family.

Community members and regular patrons of Bienvenido’s Bar described the scene as shocking and deeply unsettling. What is normally a lively social space was transformed into a site of tragedy, leaving witnesses and neighbors shaken. Messages of support, prayers, and condolences for Hoedelair’s family have poured in across social media, reflecting the profound impact he had on those around him.

“Hoedelair was more than a friend or neighbor — he was family to many of us,” said a close friend. “His smile, his laughter, his kindness — they will never be forgotten.”

This heartbreaking loss underscores the devastating toll of gun violence on families and communities in St. Croix. Authorities continue to appeal to the public for assistance, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in solving violent crimes.
