Tragic Shooting Claims Life of 51-Year-Old Rodney China Following Argument with Quinshaun Dais in Sumter County

REMBERT, S.C. (October 19, 2025) — Heartbreak has struck the Rembert community after a heated argument between 51-year-old Rodney China and 38-year-old Quinshaun Dais turned deadly on Saturday afternoon, leaving China fatally shot and Dais under arrest. The violent encounter unfolded in the quiet neighborhood of Louis Circle, shattering the peace of this small Sumter County community and leaving two families forever changed.

According to a news release from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call reporting gunfire at approximately 3:44 p.m. on Louis Circle in Rembert. When officers arrived, they found Rodney China suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts from first responders.

Authorities identified the suspect as Quinshaun Dais, a resident of Rembert. Witnesses told investigators that an argument between China and Dais escalated into a physical fight, during which Dais allegedly drew a firearm and opened fire, striking China several times.

Deputies quickly took Dais into custody without further incident. He has since been charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. Dais was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center, where he remains held pending a bond hearing.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis called the tragedy both heartbreaking and preventable.

“This was totally avoidable and unnecessary,” said Sheriff Dennis. “It was an argument that could have remained civil. Instead, it turned into a physical fight, and the suspect then resorted to deadly force.”

Dennis emphasized that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, reassuring residents that there is no ongoing danger to the public.

“A life was lost, and families are forever changed,” he said. “People must learn to communicate and never resort to gun violence. Every act of violence leaves behind grief and devastation.”

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the confrontation. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to piece together the sequence of events.

Family and friends of Rodney China are mourning the loss of a beloved community member — a man remembered for his kindness and hardworking spirit. Loved ones are calling for justice and urging peace as they grieve this senseless act of violence.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.

This devastating incident stands as a painful reminder of how quickly tempers can turn to tragedy — and the lasting scars that gun violence leaves behind.

May Rodney China rest in eternal peace.

Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
