PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Tragedy struck early Saturday morning in Panama City Beach when 40-year-old Chase Manning lost his life in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash along Thomas Drive. The Panama City Beach Police Department confirmed the fatal accident occurred near 9401 Thomas Drive shortly before 2:30 a.m., prompting a swift emergency response.
According to investigators, preliminary findings indicate that Manning was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle, veered off the roadway, and struck a power pole. The impact caused severe damage to the motorcycle and inflicted catastrophic injuries to Manning.
Officers and emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene within minutes and performed life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, Manning succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities described the crash site as “devastating,” with debris scattered along the roadside and visible damage to the power infrastructure in the area. Power crews were called to assist with repairs following the collision, which temporarily affected electrical service for nearby residents.
The Panama City Beach Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Officials said that while speed appears to have been a contributing factor, the full circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review. Investigators will continue to analyze the scene, vehicle data, and witness statements to determine the exact sequence of events.
Police urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility is reduced and reaction times can be compromised.
“This tragic accident serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly things can change on the road,” a department spokesperson said. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Mr. Manning during this unimaginable time.”
Friends and community members have begun expressing their grief and condolences on social media, remembering Chase Manning as a passionate, kindhearted man who loved the open road and was known for his generous spirit.
