Tragic Loss: El Campo EMT Daniel Cuellar, 19, Killed in Calhoun County Crash

The El Campo and broader Calhoun County communities are grieving the tragic loss of 19-year-old Daniel Cuellar, a newly serving EMT whose life was cut short far too soon. Daniel, who had recently begun his career with El Campo EMS, was known for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to helping others in their moments of need. His passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of family, friends, and fellow first responders alike.

Daniel’s father, Jacob Cuellar, shared a heartfelt message to honor his son and invite the community to celebrate his life:

“Please pass the word to any friends and family of my boy, Daniel Cuellar. We will have a memorial service for him on Sunday, Oct. 19th at 4 p.m. at the Bauer Community Center in Port Lavaca, Texas. Please come and share your stories of our son Daniel. We will have a short service followed by an open mic for anyone to speak. Finger foods and drinks will be available, and if you want to bring something, please feel free. It would be so heartwarming to see a thousand smiling faces sharing stories about Daniel.”

Daniel’s short but impactful career with El Campo EMS reflected his natural compassion and determination to make a difference in his community. Colleagues describe him as someone who approached every call with professionalism, empathy, and a sense of responsibility well beyond his years. He quickly became a trusted member of the team, leaving an impression on everyone who worked alongside him.

Tragically, Daniel’s life ended in a single-vehicle crash on the morning of October 15, 2025. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 7:44 a.m. at the intersection of SH 35 and FM 2143 near Point Comfort in Calhoun County. Daniel was driving a silver Chevrolet Silverado westbound when the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder, lost control, and struck a tree. He was promptly airlifted to OakBend Medical Center in Wharton, but despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced deceased at 9:35 a.m.

The loss has resonated deeply across the region, as Daniel’s youthful energy, warm personality, and commitment to service left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Friends, family members, and co-workers continue to share stories of his generosity, humor, and selflessness — traits that made him not just a dedicated EMT, but also a beloved son, friend, and community member.

As the Cuellar family, El Campo EMS, and the community prepare to honor Daniel’s memory, the memorial service this Sunday promises to be a gathering filled with love, remembrance, and reflection. The service will provide an opportunity for those who knew him to share stories, celebrate his life, and find comfort in one another.

Daniel Cuellar’s legacy, though tragically brief, serves as a testament to the difference one person can make in the lives of others. His dedication to serving his community, coupled with his infectious spirit and kind heart, ensures that he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In this time of mourning, thoughts and prayers remain with the Cuellar family, his colleagues at El Campo EMS, and all whose lives were touched by Daniel. While the community grapples with the loss of a young life gone too soon, the stories, memories, and smiles he inspired will continue to honor his memory for years to come.

Rest in peace, Daniel Cuellar. Your service, your kindness, and your heart will never be forgotten.
