20-Year-Old Bhavjit Singh Gill Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run on I-65 Near Southport That Killed Ryan King

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred over the weekend on I-65 near Southport, claiming the life of Ryan King. Police say the driver responsible, 20-year-old Bhavjit Singh Gill, struck and killed King and then drove off with the victim’s motorcycle lodged into his car, continuing for nearly four miles before being stopped.

According to investigators, the horrific crash unfolded late Saturday night when Gill, allegedly under the influence, collided with King’s motorcycle on northbound I-65. Instead of stopping, Gill fled the scene—dragging the wrecked motorcycle beneath his vehicle as horrified witnesses called 911. Responding officers soon located Gill and took him into custody following a brief investigation at the scene.

Authorities confirmed Monday that Gill is now facing multiple charges, including reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and causing death while operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Police reports further reveal that Gill’s driver’s license had been suspended numerous times prior to this incident.

Court records show that in August 2025, Gill successfully petitioned the Johnson County Court for specialized driving privileges—a restricted allowance permitting him to drive under certain conditions despite past suspensions. However, investigators say those conditions did not permit nighttime driving at the hour the crash occurred, making his presence on the road another violation of court orders.

Adding to the troubling history, Gill also has a previous drunk driving case from 2023, when he was just 18 years old. Despite that earlier conviction, he was again behind the wheel this past weekend under circumstances police describe as “completely reckless and avoidable.”

Friends and family of Ryan King have expressed heartbreak and frustration over the tragedy, describing him as a kind, hardworking man who loved motorcycles and was deeply cherished by his loved ones. Some reached out to local media asking why more details hadn’t been shared earlier. Authorities clarified that information was only confirmed earlier today, allowing them to publicly release verified details of the investigation.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is now reviewing the full case file, and additional charges could still be filed as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, the community continues to mourn Ryan King’s loss—another life cut short by what police say was an entirely preventable act of impaired and reckless driving.
