Before beginning his long and honorable career in emergency services, Barry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he learned the values of leadership, discipline, and service that would guide him throughout his career.

Following his military service, Barry earned his paramedic license and joined the Memphis Fire Department on May 27, 1997. His first assignment was with Unit 3, where he quickly distinguished himself through his professionalism, tireless work ethic, and his ability to remain calm under pressure. His dedication to both his colleagues and the citizens he served earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who had the privilege to work alongside him.

On June 15, 2007, Barry was promoted to EMS Lieutenant, a role in which he served with excellence and pride. As a member of EMS Training, he helped mentor countless paramedics and emergency responders, sharing his experience and passion for the job with the next generation of first responders. His influence on the department extended far beyond his daily duties, shaping the standard of care and professionalism that define Memphis EMS today.

Lieutenant Nash’s leadership was particularly vital during one of the city’s most challenging times. Colleagues describe him as a mentor, a friend, and a true public servant whose dedication extended far beyond the uniform he wore. His passion for service and compassion for others embodied the very best of what it means to be a firefighter, a medic, and a leader.

As the Memphis Fire Department and the community come to terms with this devastating loss, they extend their deepest condolences to Barry Nash’s family, friends, and colleagues. The department asks that everyone keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
