19-Year-Old Deiveon Newman Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Daryle L. Bryant on Tuscarawas Street West in Canton

The Canton Police Department, led by Police Chief John Gabbard, has arrested Deiveon Newman, 19, of Massillon, in connection with the fatal shooting of Daryle L. Bryant, 21, of Canton, that occurred Monday morning on Tuscarawas Street West. The victim, Bryant, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and later died at Aultman Hospital despite emergency efforts to save his life.

According to Chief John Gabbard, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:30 a.m. on November 3 after receiving a 911 call reporting a shooting at 3907 Tuscarawas Street W., Apartment 8. When officers arrived, they discovered Daryle L. Bryant inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.

Canton Fire Department medics provided emergency treatment and transported Bryant to Aultman Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Through their investigation, police identified Deiveon Newman as the primary suspect. Investigators believe Newman fled the scene immediately after the shooting, prompting a search by local authorities. On Tuesday morning, Newman surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.

Newman has since been charged with murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Chief John Gabbard commended the work of responding officers, detectives, and community members who assisted in identifying and locating the suspect. “This was a tragic and senseless act of violence that took a young man’s life,” Gabbard said. “Our department remains committed to seeking justice for Mr. Bryant and his family.”

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review surveillance footage to determine what led to the shooting and whether any other individuals were involved.
