CEDAR PARK, TX — A tragic incident unfolded in Cedar Park on Sunday, November 2, 2025, when a 24-year-old man was fatally shot by police following a stabbing at a local karaoke bar. The Cedar Park Police Department has identified the deceased as Jacob Allen of Cedar Park.
According to authorities, officers responded to a disturbance at Top Spin Karaoke & Wing Bar, located on the 1800 block of South Lakeline Boulevard, after reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered 40-year-old Justin Dearing of Leander suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency responders immediately began life-saving measures, and Dearing was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Police reported that the suspect, later identified as Jacob Allen, had fled the scene prior to their arrival. Officers located Allen operating a motorcycle on Lakeline Boulevard and attempted to engage him. During a brief pursuit, Allen stopped his motorcycle in a traffic lane and reportedly produced a handgun. Officers then discharged their firearms. Despite immediate life-saving efforts at the scene, Allen was pronounced dead.
Authorities noted that Allen had an extensive criminal history, including prior arrests for weapons offenses, obstruction, and assault-related charges. Law enforcement sources also stated that he had previously made threats toward officers in surrounding agencies, and was known to local law enforcement.
The officers involved in the incident are K9 Officer Erik Detlefsen, a 22-year veteran of the department, and Sgt. Ryan Zander, a nine-year veteran. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy. The Texas Rangers, in coordination with the Cedar Park Police Department Major Crimes Unit, are leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
