In Loving Memory of Miguel Garcia

EL PASO, Texas — The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) has identified the victim of a tragic shooting that occurred on Sunday morning, November 2, 2025, at the La Estancia apartment complex in East El Paso. The victim has been named as 36-year-old Miguel Garcia. Authorities have also arrested a suspect in connection with the incident, identified as 21-year-old Jaeveyin Antonio Porter.

Shortly before 11:50 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at the 7900 block of Viscount. Upon arrival, officers found Miguel Garcia outside an apartment on the second floor, suffering from fatal gunshot injuries. Despite the swift response of law enforcement, Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an argument had taken place between Porter and a female resident who initially reported the incident. She left the apartment but later returned with Miguel Garcia. During this time, authorities say Porter shot Garcia before fleeing the scene. Officers located Porter shortly afterward at a nearby location on 1100 Sunmount, where he was taken into custody and later booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a murder charge.
