MONROE, LA — The Monroe Police Department (MPD) has arrested Cameron James Criner, 24, in connection with the tragic triple homicide that occurred early Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025, on Grammont Street. This horrific act claimed the lives of 27-year-old Jamal Bosley, 25-year-old Jaborris Simpson, and two-year-old Jhersi Simpson. The victims were found with gunshot wounds in an apartment complex, and authorities have confirmed that two different caliber shell casings were found at the scene.
Criner, whose criminal history is extensive and deeply troubling, was apprehended after a significant investigation and public tip-offs. The investigation revealed the gruesome details of the crime, including the fact that the back door of the residence had been kicked in and the majority of the cabinets and closets had been rummaged through. Bullet fragments found at the crime scene suggested that the victims were shot multiple times, including after they had fallen to the ground.
Criner’s Criminal History:
Criner has a long and violent criminal history, which includes several prior arrests:
- August 13, 2021: Arrested for 2nd Degree Feticide, Domestic Abuse Battery, and Criminal Damage to Property.
- October 1, 2022: Arrested for Resisting an Officer, Failure to Appear, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Domestic Abuse Battery, False Imprisonment, Domestic Abuse Battery–Aggravated Assault, and Domestic Abuse Battery–Child Endangerment.
- October 26, 2022: Arrested for a Probation Violation.
Despite having been convicted for Domestic Abuse Battery of a Pregnant Victim in 2022, Criner was sentenced to three years at hard labor with a projected release date of July 29, 2025. However, Criner’s probation was revoked in October 2021, and his prior conviction legally prohibited him from possessing a firearm—a restriction he violated during this recent crime.
Investigation and Arrest:
The arrest of Criner came after weeks of painstaking investigation by the Monroe Police Department. As authorities gathered evidence, it became clear that Criner was involved in this senseless act of violence. The victims, Bosley, Simpson, and Jhersi Simpson, were found shot at the scene, and despite life-saving efforts, the two-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The MPD, with the help of the public, was able to piece together the details of the case. Investigators initially identified 24-year-old Travis Tyrone Payton as a person of interest. Through further investigation and the analysis of cellphone records, authorities confirmed that Payton was near the scene of the homicide before the incident and was seen in the area shortly after the crime.
Payton has since been arrested and charged with three counts of First-Degree Murder, Home Invasion, and Criminal Conspiracy. MPD detectives continue to work relentlessly on this case, and they are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
Mayor’s Statement and Ongoing Investigation:
Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis praised the swift actions of the Monroe Police Department, thanking the public for their help in providing valuable tips that led to Criner’s arrest. “We extend our deepest thanks to the public,” Mayor Ellis said. “Your courage in coming forward with information helped MPD identify and apprehend Mr. Criner.
