BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM (October 14, 2025) — The Bernalillo County community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 35-year-old Luke Alvarez, who was fatally shot late Monday morning in what authorities believe may have been a road rage incident.
According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), deputies were dispatched to the area of Bridge Boulevard and La Vega SW around 11:20 a.m. on October 13, 2025, after multiple reports of gunfire were received.
When deputies arrived, they discovered a man — later identified as Luke Alvarez — suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Deputies and emergency medical personnel immediately rendered aid before transporting him to the University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition. Despite extensive life-saving efforts, Alvarez tragically succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Investigation Underway
The BCSO Violent Crimes Unit initially responded to the scene and later transferred the case to Homicide Detectives, who are now leading the ongoing investigation.
