In Loving Memory of Jason Ellis (1984 – 2025)

WEST MONROE, La. — The West Monroe community is grieving the devastating loss of 41-year-old Jason Ellis, whose life was tragically cut short in a hit-and-run collision late Tuesday night. The fatal incident occurred on October 28, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., when officers with the West Monroe Police Department (WMPD) were dispatched to a reported pedestrian accident on Cypress Street near Jackson Street.

When officers arrived, they discovered Mr. Ellis lying unresponsive in the roadway. Despite immediate efforts by emergency medical personnel, he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. The heartbreaking loss has left his family, friends, and the community searching for answers and justice.

According to investigators, preliminary reports indicate that Mr. Ellis was struck by a dark-colored sedan traveling eastbound on Cypress Street. The driver of that vehicle failed to stop after the collision and continued eastbound, leaving behind a scene of tragedy. Police believe the suspect’s vehicle may have damage to the front driver’s side headlight area and along the driver’s side panel, details that could prove vital in identifying the responsible driver.

Moments after the initial impact, a second vehicle traveling westbound also struck Mr. Ellis. Unlike the first driver, this motorist stopped immediately, remained on the scene, and fully cooperated with law enforcement. Investigators have since determined that this driver is not believed to be at fault and was released after providing a statement.

The West Monroe Police Department continues to pursue all leads in the case. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses in hopes of obtaining images of the suspect vehicle. Authorities are urging anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the collision—or who may have information about a damaged dark-colored sedan—to come forward.

Jason Ellis was more than just a victim of a senseless act; he was a beloved member of the West Monroe community. Those who knew him describe him as kind, generous, and hardworking—a man who would go out of his way to help others.
