LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified the teen who tragically died in a Sunday morning crash as 17-year-old George Hall Gomez Jr. of Leesville. The fatal accident occurred around 5:25 a.m. on Jim Spence Road near Addie Lucas Road, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Trooper Ridgeway reported that Gomez was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze southbound on Jim Spence Road when the vehicle veered off the road to the right, struck a culvert, and ultimately collided with a tree. Emergency responders transported Gomez to a nearby hospital, where Coroner Margaret Fisher confirmed that he was pronounced dead. Authorities noted that Gomez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
