In Loving Memory of Vincento Davis :A Life Taken Too Soon in Wylam

The Birmingham community is mourning the tragic loss of 61-year-old Vincento Davis, who was shot and killed while sitting inside a pickup truck in the driveway of a Wylam residence Saturday evening. The devastating incident took place at a home in the 900 block of Erie Street, where loved ones and neighbors were left heartbroken and searching for answers.

According to Birmingham Police, the city’s gunfire detection system—Shot Spotter—alerted authorities to gunfire at approximately 7:09 p.m. When West Precinct officers arrived, they found Davis unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the truck, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. While early radio communications indicated he had been shot in the head, officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the fatal injury. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members quickly gathered outside the home in deep grief and disbelief. Among them was Davis’s daughter, who stood beside relatives as they tried to understand how such a tragic loss could occur so suddenly. Loved ones said the home belonged to Davis’s girlfriend, though investigators have not yet revealed any details about what circumstances led up to the shooting.

Police have not released any suspect information, and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues. Detectives are working to piece together what happened and are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward.

This tragedy marks Birmingham’s 68th homicide of the year, reflecting a painful reality that families and communities continue to face. Across Jefferson County, there have been 101 homicides so far this year—each one representing a life, a family, and a circle of loved ones left shattered.

As the community mourns, they also call for answers, closure, and peace.
