In Loving Memory of Samuel Tyler Gross

It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of a fatal motorcycle accident that claimed the life of 18-year-old Samuel Tyler Gross of Petoskey. The devastating collision occurred on October 13, 2025, at approximately 7:03 p.m., at the intersection of Intertown and Eppler Roads in Emmet County.

According to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a Toyota 4Runner. Upon arrival, first responders found that Samuel, the driver of the motorcycle, had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Despite the swift response of Emmet County EMS and other emergency personnel, Samuel was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, identified as 69-year-old Candace Jo Wynn, also from Petoskey, was transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for evaluation but did not sustain any injuries.

Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that speed appears to have been a primary contributing factor in the collision. Sheriff Matt Leirstein expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, stating, “The Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.”

The investigation into the accident remains ongoing as officials continue to piece together the events leading up to the collision. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Emmet County EMS, the Resort Bear Creek Fire Department, the Emmet County Road Commission, and the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Police. Their coordinated response and professionalism were instrumental in handling this difficult and tragic event.
