TULSA, OK — October 21, 2025Heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Tulsa Boys Home after a 16-year-old resident died Monday morning in what authorities describe as a self-inflicted shooting. According to officials with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred while an off-duty Tulsa Police Officer was on the premises teaching an archery class.

Preliminary reports indicate that the young man somehow gained access to the officer’s service weapon. Investigators say the teen grabbed the firearm directly from the officer’s holster and then shot himself, resulting in fatal injuries. The devastating event unfolded suddenly and left staff and other residents at the facility in shock.

Emergency personnel were immediately called to the scene, but despite urgent efforts to save him, the 16-year-old was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released his name pending family notification.

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead on the investigation to ensure a thorough and impartial review of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
