Tragedy Strikes at Indian Trail Taco Bell as Employee Identified as Tre Hobbs Fatally Shot in Targeted Attack

UNION COUNTY, N.C. —Heartbreak and disbelief have swept across Union County following a deadly shooting at a Taco Bell restaurant in Indian Trail on Monday night that claimed the life of Tre Hobbs, a beloved employee remembered for his bright smile and kind heart.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Taco Bell around 8:45 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Hobbs suffering from several gunshot wounds inside the restaurant. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, not a random act of violence. Authorities have not yet released information regarding a suspect, but the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that detectives are actively pursuing leads and reviewing surveillance footage from the area.

In the hours following the tragedy, Tre’s mother identified him publicly, expressing her devastation on social media. “My baby didn’t deserve this,” she wrote, as hundreds of friends, family members, and community members offered words of comfort, prayers, and support.

Those who knew Tre say he was more than just a coworker — he was family. Known for his hard work, infectious laughter, and compassionate spirit, Tre was someone who could bring light to even the toughest days.

“He was just doing his job, trying to make an honest living,” one friend shared tearfully. “Tre didn’t bother anyone. He had dreams, and he was working hard to make them happen.”

By Tuesday morning, the restaurant’s parking lot had become a place of remembrance. Candles, flowers, and handwritten notes surrounded the entrance as friends and coworkers gathered to mourn together and celebrate Tre’s life. The outpouring of grief and love was a testament to the impact he had on those around him.

Union County deputies are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could help bring justice for Tre and closure for his grieving family.

As the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the painful reality of losing another young life to senseless violence. Tre’s name will now live on in the hearts of those who loved him — a reminder of the joy he brought, the laughter he shared, and the kindness that defined him.

Rest in peace, Tre Hobbs. Your light, your laughter, and your love for life will never be forgotten.
