29-Year-Old Trinity Staten Fatally Shot by Boyfriend While Entering Rideshare Vehicle — Suspect Charged with Murder

ST. LOUIS, MO (October 14, 2025) — Heartbreak and outrage ripple through north St. Louis after police say 31-year-old Jeremie Northcross fatally shot his girlfriend, 29-year-old Trinity Staten, early Tuesday morning as she entered a rideshare vehicle in an attempt to leave a dangerous situation.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), officers were called at approximately 2:25 a.m. after a woman suffering from a gunshot wound was dropped off at a local hospital by a rideshare driver. Despite emergency efforts by medical staff, Staten was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, leaving loved ones devastated and a community shaken.

Investigators quickly determined that the shooting occurred near North Broadway and East Clarence Avenue, in St. Louis’ Sixth District, just across from the Love’s Travel Stop in the city’s North Riverfront neighborhood.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Staten had just entered a rideshare vehicle when multiple gunshots rang out. The driver, acting heroically, sped off from the scene and rushed her to the hospital in a desperate attempt to save her life.

Authorities say the shooter was Trinity’s boyfriend, Jeremie Northcross, who fled the scene immediately after the attack. Following an intensive investigation by the SLMPD Homicide Division, Northcross was identified, located, and taken into custody.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has since charged Northcross with:

  • First-Degree Murder
  • Armed Criminal Action

Police believe the killing was domestic-related, though they have not disclosed the specific motive. “This was an act of senseless violence,” said one homicide detective familiar with the case. “Trinity was trying to leave — to get away and protect herself — but she never got that chance.”

Witnesses and neighbors described waking up to the sound of gunfire, followed by screeching tires and police sirens filling the early-morning silence.

The tragedy has left family and friends reeling. Many have taken to social media to share their grief and outrage, remembering Trinity as a kind, loving mother and friend who “just wanted peace and a new beginning.”

“She didn’t deserve this,” one family member wrote. “She was trying to get away, trying to live — and he took that from her.”

The Homicide Division continues to investigate the fatal shooting. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact SLMPD Homicide Detectives at (314) 444-5371.

Those who wish to remain anonymous — and possibly qualify for a cash reward — can contact CrimeStoppers at (866) 371-TIPS (8477). Police emphasized that only tips leading to a felony arrest are eligible for CrimeStoppers rewards.
